The field of study of the Department of Sustainable Agriculture focuses on the sustainable, efficient and equitable management of natural capital and the rural environment that participates in the production of food and raw materials and supports biodiversity and ecosystem services.
The scope of sustainable agriculture includes all forms of integrated agriculture, organic and ecological agriculture, precision agriculture, extensive agriculture, agroforestry, carbon sequestration agriculture, agroecology, ecotourism, as well as all other forms of agriculture and livestock farming that contribute to the sustainable management and protection of natural resources and rural ecosystems, in the context of climate change and European and international conventions for the management and protection of the environment and natural resources of the countryside.
The mission of the Department of Sustainable Agriculture is to train geotechnical scientists with the necessary knowledge of science and technology for the preparation of integrated sustainable agricultural development plans, studies and projects, the drafting of strategies and policies regarding sustainable agricultural practice and the ecological transition of agricultural practice and production, the design and dissemination of practices for mitigating the impacts of agriculture on greenhouse gas emissions and the adaptation of agriculture to changing climate conditions, their preparation for staffing public and private sector bodies, agricultural farms, food and beverage companies, business control and support bodies, such as research laboratories and institutes, microbiological analysis and quality control laboratories for agricultural production, sustainable management of natural resources and the preparation of food export companies, bodies providing advisory and educational services. with an emphasis on sustainable management systems, organic farming, ecological farming, integrated farming, precision farming, carbon sequestration farming, etc.
The Undergraduate Program of the Department of Sustainable Agriculture is structured to offer:

Scientific training that focuses on the understanding of scientific concepts, principles and methods in all basic sciences and on their synthesis and application in the field of Sustainable Agriculture.

Development of research skills and methods of producing and presenting research through assignments and studies, as well as through the mandatory thesis.

Preparation for further studies at postgraduate level.

Skills development through interdisciplinary teamwork, field exercises, educational visits, internships as well as the possibility of participating in mobility programs such as Erasmus.
Professional Rights
The Department of Sustainable Agriculture of the University of Patras has a 5-year study cycle that will lead to the award of an ” Agriculturalist Degree “, which may be recognized as an integrated master based on article 47, Law 4763/2020 , at level 7 of the National Qualifications Framework.
